What does a hard drive have in common with a GERBIL?

They both have a life expectancy of about 3-5 years, so when Gerry the gerbil hops it there’s no doubt that someone will be upset. The same doesn’t have to be for hard drive failure. The thing is, hard drives have physical moving parts and there’s a lot that can go wrong.

Take a look at a normal spinning hard drive and you’ll see what I mean.

Now, of course you don’t have to know how a hard drive works, it’s not that important in most of our day to day lives. What is important though, is all the data stored on these clever little time bombs.

There are many things we can do to mitigate failure, however nothing is as effective as having another copy of your data backed up, offsite. Backups in the office are useful, but if the reason you need your backups is because someone has broken in and stolen your computers, chances are your backup have disappeared along with half your office!

We’ve spent a lot of time perfecting a backup solution for companies of all sizes and we’re very proud of it.

There are a lot of backup companies about there, and we’re sure they offer fantastic services. But it just wasn’t good enough for us, so we designed our solution a bit different.

  • Our backups are all automated – you do not have to do anything. A client installed on your server/computer will take care of looking after the files that are important to you.
  • No setup fees for upgrading storage space, it just takes a quick painless phone call to upgrade your space.
  • All your data is stored offsite in our cloud based solution, that means if you have a fire in your building, or the server gets stolen, you get a virus or anything like that we have a safe copy of your data. Your data will be securely encrypted in the cloud. As well as that, we will have a local copy of your data ready in our offices in Wokingham.
Above is the journey your backups take when we look after them. They are uploaded to our cloud solution in real time. This means if your computer is backed up with us and it stops working for whatever reason, as long as you were online the file you were working on will be backed up for you to carry on working on elsewhere.

All backups are archived off daily for 2 weeks on average (this can be tweaked depending on your requirements). So lets think about that, your data will be:

    • On your computer/server
    • In the cloud real time
    • In our office real time
    • Archived off on another system in our office

That’s four different places for absolute peace of mind.
